The last day in November? Really?

Amazing weather.

News: 25 November 2014

There was a good turnout for the Christian Aid Quiz Night on Friday, and an enjoyable evening saw a narrow victory for the Latecomers team.

On Friday, November 28th, the Open Doors Club will be welcoming St Austell Follies, who will be entertaining at St Andrew’s Church Hall, from 2pm.
St Peter’s Church Christmas Bazaar is at Mevagissey Jubilee Hall on Saturday,November 29th, from 10am until 1pm. A variety of stalls will be on hand;  please do come and support this early Christmas event, and maybe pick up some gifts.
Another early Christmas event takes place at the same venue later in the day when the Friends of Mevagissey Surgeries will be holding their quiz night with a Christmas theme. This commences at 7.30pm. Mike Mutton will be putting the questions; the cost is £3.00 per head.  All are welcome to bring their own drinks and nibbles, although tea and coffee will be available during the interval, and mince pies will probably be not far away!  The Christmas Quiz always has a party atmosphere, so please set your video recorders and come out for an evening with live entertainment.
Mevagissey FC are in action on Saturday, November 29th, with the first eleven involved in an East Cornwall Premier League Division 1 game at home to Roche. The Duchy League Division 4 team visit Godolphin Atlantic Reserves.  Both matches kick-off at 2.30pm.

There is a Christmas Bazaar, hosted by the Mevagissey Committee of Cancer Research, at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Thursday, December 4th, between 10am and 12 noon.  Amongst other things on offer, the will be a book stall, cakes. bric-a-brac and Christmas decorations and gifts. Refreshments will be available.  All are welcome.

November in Meva

What’s Mevagissey like in November? On a quiet Sunday? Early, as the sun’s coming up? It’s like this.

Loch Meva Monster?

There was a D-ring, there was a bit of twine. I only moved them closer together…. 🙂

A bit of metal, a scrap of string, and hey presto.

Christmas Lights

*coloured lightsMevagissey’s brilliant Christmas lights will be switched on with an official ceremony on Saturday December 6th. There’s a procession which will be leaving the Fire Station at 5.00. The parade will make its way to the harbour for the grand turning on at 6.00. There will be lots of entertainment with live music, mulled wine & mince pies.

(Incidentally, donations very welcome!)

Where in Mevagissey?

Where in Mevagissey is an occasional “pop quiz” I do on Facebook and Twitter from time to time. No prizes! A “Like” or “Favourite” means you’re right. Silence or “nope” tells you you’re on the wrong track.  Look for the hashtag #whereinmeva to play.

Here’s a sample for bloggers to try:

Catwalk fame

Clothing company Gabicci, in its “Vintage” line, has a duffle-coat styled jacket with toggle fastenings that is called the “Mevagissey”.

Now that’s fame.
