Vehicular access can be quite challenging in Mevagissey. We’re a small fishing village whose streets and squares were built for a slower, less crowded age. Parking in the village is at a premium, and is always chargeable. For a relaxed, comfortable visit it’s recommended that you park your car in one of the commercial car parks provided, and explore our twisty roads and nooks and alleys on foot. The car parks below are all within a short stroll of the harbour, and provide a reasonably level approach – none are the wrong side of a steep hill!
Short-term parking is available on Lighthouse Quay, on the south side of the harbour. Follow the signs (warning, twisty!) out to the harbour and keep right. There is a ticket machine for pay and display.
Sunny Corner is a medium-sized , privately owned car park in Chapel Square. To reach Sunny Corner you have to drive into the village and commit to the one-way system, so please be sure that your vehicle and driving skills can both cope with the narrow lanes and tight corners.

Willow Car Park
Willow Car Park is privately owned, and is the largest of Mevagissey’s car parks. It is easy to find, has plenty of level space, and is the only one able to take coaches and motorhomes. Motorhome owners can even park over-night, a big plus for anybody wishing to stay and explore a little more. Look for the signs on the left as you enter the village, you can’t miss it. Tickets are available by the hour, day, week etc and the car park is manned during the season, with an automatic ticket-machine for out-of-hours/season visitors.
If you visit by coach, this will be your drop-off and pick-up point.

Staying for longer? You may wish to visit Mevagissey for more than just a few weeks, or even end up moving here (it happens!), in which case Mevagissey Community Primary School web site is a useful link for parents. Visit it at: www.mevagisseyschool.co.uk.
Like most British holiday destinations Mevagissey is, naturally, busier during the summer season. During the summer months when the schools are on holiday accommodation and restaurant tables can be in short-supply, so high season visits are best booked in advance. During the “six weeks” of the school holidays you may find that most restaurants will not take bookings, as the demand is so hight it’s fairer to offer tables on a “first come, first served” basis. If you want to be sure of eating in your first choice, check with them during the day and if advised, turn up early.
Out of season many businesses close down for a well-earned rest for the owners, and some refurbishment for the premises. Mevagissey is lovely in the winter, but be prepared for fewer choices.
Mevagissey is served by Western Greyhound (524/5), with regular buses (every half-hour at time of writing) to St Austell.
In addition we have the local Gorran Bus providing excursions, and regular shopping trips. Visit their website for more information.
